Truck rollover on Bangerter blocks traffic for hours

A crash involving four vehicles closed east- and westbound lanes on Bangerter Highway and 12600 South for about six hours.

At about 2 p.m. Tuesday, a large truck outfitted with a crane and carrying a load of drywall was southbound on Bangerter when the signal changed. The man driving didn’t think he could stop, so he attempted to turn right onto 12600 South, Det. Ken Hansen of the Unified Police Department said.

The load shifted and the truck rolled onto a small white Honda. The truck also hit two other vehicles, Hansen said.

The driver of the truck and his two passengers, all male, were injured but are in fair condition. The driver of the Honda is in critical condition. Occupants of the two other vehicles were uninjured, Hansen said.

In addition to the wreckage, oil spilled over the roadway. Traffic was blocked until about 8 p.m. as crews worked to tow the truck and clean spilled fuel.
