A person and a dog die in a Utah shooting

A shooting in West Valley City on Thursday night left a person and a dog dead.

The human victim was in a southbound vehicle on Bangerter Highway, turning right onto 4100 South when someone in another vehicle fired shots into the car, according to Roxeanne Vainuku, spokeswoman for the West Valley City Police Department.

The victim died from a gunshot wound, as did the dog, Vainuku said. Vainuku said a report of the shooting came in at 9:45 p.m.

There was an unknown number of passengers in the victim’s vehicle, Vainuku said, but no one else was injured.

Vainuku did not know whether the shooting was a random or targeted attack. No other details on the shooting were available, she said.
