Bathroom reholstering ends in hospital visit after man shoots himself in hand

The accident took place at office building in downtown Salt Lake City.

While attempting to reholster a pistol in a bathroom stall of a downtown Salt Lake City business office, a man accidentally shot himself in the hand Wednesday afternoon.

Police scanner chatter reported blood spattered around the stall, but the man sustained only minor injuries.

Det. Robert Ungricht with the Salt Lake City Police Department said the man had a concealed weapon permit and was carrying the gun legally when he accidentally shot himself. The incident occurred on an upper floor of an office building at 310 S. Main.

Ungricht said the man called police to report the incident while being taken to the hospital by his friend.

Ungricht said police will respond to ensure everything occurred as reported, but he doesn’t foresee any charges coming as a result of the shooting.
