Californian is rescued after falling 50 feet, spending the night in a Utah cave

A 24-year-old California man was rescued Monday morning after falling 50 feet in a Uintah County cave Sunday evening.

The man had been hiking in Little Brush Creek Cave with three friends when he fell, according to a news release from the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office. One of his companions found his way out of the cave — which took an hour, the release states — and called police just after 9 p.m.

The injured 24-year-old was about 500 feet from the cave’s entrance, the release states. Two rescuers — a member of the Vernal Fire Department and a member of Uintah County search and rescue — made it to the man and stayed with him overnight, according to the release.

He and two of his companions were brought out of the cave at 9:50 a.m. on Monday morning, the release states. He suffered broken bones. His companions weren’t injured.
