Police searching for man who allegedly splashed roommate with gasoline and set a small fire around their home in Millcreek

Police were searching for man Friday morning who allegedly splashed his roommate with gasoline and set a small fire around his home before leaving the scene.

Unified Fire Authority spokesman Taylor Sandstrom said firefighters were called to a possible arson at a home near 1400 East and 4100 South in Millcreek about 1:30 a.m.

Witnesses told investigators there was a dispute between the two men outside their residence, and one man took a can of gas and splashed it onto the other, according to Sandstrom.

The man who’d been splashed went inside, Sandstrom said, and the other man, who was still outside, spread the gas around the home and set it on fire.

When firefighters arrived, the fire was easily extinguished without doing much damage, Sandstrom said. Police are looking for the suspect and are investigating the incident as arson.

Though officers have more details about the relationship of the two men and what the dispute had been about, Sandstrom said they were not releasing those details at this point in time.
