An 18-year-old Eagle Mountain man was flown to a hospital with stab wounds Tuesday afternoon after a family altercation, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The stabbing, reported about 3:20 p.m., occurred in a home near the intersection of Parker’s Place and Cattle Drive in Eagle Mountain, Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.
Officials said the man was stabbed by his younger brother. Police believe the 16-year-old brother was trying to protect their 14-year-old sister, who reportedly was being assaulted by the 18-year-old during an argument, a Sheriff’s Office news release said.
The 18-year-old had five wounds across his arm, chest and upper back and was taken by helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, where he was in critical condition Tuesday night. Officials said his injuries were not life threatening.
The 16-year-old brother was arrested and booked into Slate Canyon Youth Detention Center in Provo on suspicion of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony. Police said the 18-year-old would be charged with a count of misdemeanor child abuse for the alleged assault of his sister.
