Utah Highway Patrol troopers on Monday released the identity of a 12-year-old boy who died Saturday in a rollover crash in Sanpete County.
Easton Taylor, 12, of West Jordan, was the only fatality in the crash, confirmed patrol spokesman Sgt. Todd Royce.
The child, four additional boys and a man were traveling north on U.S. Highway 89 when one of the boys, who was driving, tried to pass another vehicle several miles north of Fairview at about 4 p.m. But as he did, the left front tire of the sport utility vehicle he was driving failed.
The SUV went off the road, hit a drainage ditch and rolled several times. The 12-year-old boy was in the back seat and was partially ejected as the SUV rolled. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the UHP.
As of Monday, no information was available on the conditions of the other juveniles and adult, Royce said.
The accident remains under investigation.
