Fox has, somewhat belatedly, renewed "So You Think You Can Dance" for a 14th season — and it won't be another "Next Generation" iteration with contestants ages 8 to 13.
That must have seemed like a good idea to … somebody, but it turned out to be the least interesting/watchable season of "SYTYCD" to date.
When the show returns this summer, the contestants will be between the ages of 18 and 30. And in that format, there has been at least one finalist from Utah every season but one.
In the majority of seasons, there have been multiple Utah finalists. As many as four.
The show will be carrying forward the use of "all-stars" — past contestants — who will partner with this year's top 10 contestants.
"This season is about giving our loyal fan base what they've been asking for," said executive producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe. "We've decided to go back to basics by bringing the best of our past formats together for an exciting new summer featuring accomplished adult competitors partnered with fan-favorite All-Star dancers. And, of course, as in past seasons, there will be new surprises which are sure to wow our viewers."
They've cut way back on the audition sites this season. There will be just two — New York (March 4-6) and Los Angeles (March 17-19).
