Monday on TV: 3 worth watching — ‘Fargo’ ends; ‘Childhood’s End’ and ‘The Expanse’ begin

Chris Large | FX Kirsten Dunst as Peggy Blumquist and Jesse Plemons as Ed Blumquist in Season 2 of ÒFargo.Ó

One excellent series ends its season tonight; a very good three-part sci-fi miniseries begins; and a promising new sci-fi series kicks things off.

• Season 2 of "Fargo" (11 p.m., FX) comes to a close … and, given that each season is a completely separate story, it brings this narrative to an end. In thie finale, Peggy and Ed try to escape.

• "Childhood's End" (9 p.m., Syfy) is a three-part adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke's classic sci-fi novel, and the show holds true to the spirit of the book — although there have been some changes. In Part 1, alien Overlords arrive on Earth to guide humans to a golden age — but do they have an ulterior motive?

It continues on Tuesday and concludes on Wednesday. And you can read a lot more about "Childhood's End" if you click here.

• And "The Expanse" (11 p.m., Syfy) is a new sci-fi series set in the 23rd century that starts out a bit slow, but give it a chance. I've seen four episodes, and I'm anxious to see more. This is also based on a series of novels, and begins with the search for a missing woman and an attack on a space freighter that signal a massive conspiracy that could lead to war.

Episode 2 airs Tuesday at 11 p.m., the series' regular time slot.

Oh, and there's a Mormon-related subplot that begins in Episode 3 and picks up in Episode 4. And click here for much more about that.
