CBS’ ‘48 Hours’ reports on murder trial of Utahn who killed his ex-wife

John Brickman Wall, a Salt Lake City pediatrician awaiting trial on murder in his ex-wife's death, appears in court Friday, May 9, 2014, in Salt Lake City. A Salt Lake City police officer says a pediatrician accused of killing his ex-wife seemed surprised that he was not arrested the night her body was found. Walls attorney Fred Metos argues his client's statements to police should not be allowed at an upcoming murder trial because they were made under "psychological and physical coercion" by the detectives. A judge is not expected to rule on the statements until additional police testimony can be heard next week. Wall has pleaded not guilty to murder. No trial date has been set. Another Utah murder trial will play out in this week's episode of "48 Hours" (Saturday, 9 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2) — although there's no suspense for anyone who read the Tribune when the trial concluded in March.

Correspondent Susan Spencer reports on the trial of Johnny Wall, who was eventually convicted of murdering his ex-wife, Uta von Schwedler, and trying to make it look like a suicide. And the report focuses on the efforts of von Schwedler and Wall's son, Pelle, to put his father away for his mother's murder.

Saturday's episode marks a return to the case for "48 Hours," which has previously telecast reports about the troubling sequence of events. And Spencer interviewed Pelle Wall during the course of the trial.

"My father being put on trial is the culmination of a lot of work," Wall says. "I will be sitting across from him. I'm sure he doesn't have warm feelings for me.

"His conviction is incredibly important to me."

The hour also includes interviews with Wall, investigators, family members and von Schwedler's co-workers.
