Midway's ice castles have become a popular winter destination for hundreds who come to Heber Valley each year to tour a frozen artistic wonderland.

The Utah-based Ice Castles company has begun construction and if the weather stays cold enough officials hope to have the castles open by Dec. 26.

The group said in a news release that more than a million people have come to Midway to view the Ice Castles since the company began building them five years ago.

The acre-size Midway castle takes about 4,000 hours to build and combines icicles with color-changing LED lights. It takes nearly an acre of land.

The company will also open castles in Wisconsin, Canada, Minnesota and New Hampshire.
