Salt Lake ranked fourth as staycation destination

There are many reasons families might choose to vacation at home, often called Staycations.

Some don't have a lot of spare cash. Others don't have much vacation time. And many don't enjoy the hassles of flying or driving long distances.

If you live in or near Salt Lake City and are planning a Staycation, you are apparently in luck. According to the website WalletHub, Utah's capitol city is the fourth best place in the U.S. to enjoy a stay cation.

The only places that are better, according to the personal finance site's 2016 Best and Worst Cities for Staycations, are the Florida cities of Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa.

WalletHub used 28 metrics and looked at 150 cities. The data looked at such metrics as movie and bowling costs, golf courses, frozen-yogurt shops and spas per capita and the cost of house-cleaning services.

Here is where Salt Lake ranked:

• 1st – Number of Public Golf Courses per Capita

• 28th – Number of Zoos & Aquariums per Capita

• 6th – Number of Museums per Capita

• 12th – Number of Spas & Wellness Centers per Capita

• 39th – Number of Nightlife Options per Capita

• 2nd – Cost of a Movie Ticket

• 23rd – Number of Shopping Centers per Capita

• 4th – Number of Cultural Attractions (Theater & Concerts) per Capita
