Alien invasions don't get sillier, or more colorful, than in the computer-animated adventure "Home."
When the Boov, a race of blobby six-tentacled creatures, run away from their archenemy, the Gorg, they find a new home on Earth after displacing the human inhabitants to new digs in Australia. The mistake-prone alien Oh (voiced by Jim Parsons) accidentally sends a signal allowing the Gorg to find the Boov's new hiding place, making him a fugitive from his own kind.
Oh discovers one abandoned human, 12-year-old Gratuity, nicknamed Tip (voiced by Rihanna). Oh agrees to help Tip find her mother (voiced by Jennifer Lopez) if Tip will help him infiltrate Boov HQ to stop the signal from reaching the Gorg.
In adapting Adam Rex's children's book "The True Meaning of Smekday," director Tim Johnson ("Over the Hedge") creates a colorful, fast-moving scenario that's brimming with comic potential. Writers Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember ("Get Smart") mine the story for offbeat humor, much of it stemming from the ways the Boov — led by their arrogantly dim commander, Capt. Smek (voiced by Steve Martin) — misread their new human cohabitants.
