Fall movie photos: ‘Interstellar,’ ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1’ among November releases

There are 80 movies expected to open in Salt Lake City-area theaters this fall, moving into the holiday season. Here's the list, with photos, of the movies opening in November. (Release dates are tentative.)

Nov. 7

Big Hero 6 • Disney's animated adventure, based on a Marvel Comics title, about a young tinkerer named Hiro (voiced by Ryan Potter) and his inflatable robot Baymax (voiced by "30 Rock's" Scott Adsit).

Birdman • Michael Keaton stars as a former movie star, famous for playing an iconic superhero, trying to reclaim his glory by mounting a Broadway play. Edward Norton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts and Zack Galifianakis also star for director Alejandro González Iñárritu ("Babel").

Interstellar • Director Christopher Nolan ("The Dark Knight" trilogy) returns with this ambitious space drama about a team of explorers (led by Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway) leaving a ravaged Earth to traverse a wormhole to another solar system.

Rosewater • "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart makes his directorial debut with this serious drama, the true story of an Iranian journalist (Gael Garcia Bernal) detained and brutally interrogated for 100 days in an Iranian prison.

Nov. 14

Beyond the Lights • Gugu Mbatha-Raw ("Belle") stars as a singer on the brink of stardom — and the brink of a meltdown, until she meets a handsome cop (Nate Parker) assigned to protect her.

Dumb & Dumber To • Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels return as dim-bulbs Lloyd and Harry, and so do directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly, 20 years after the original.

Nov. 21

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 • The saga of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), reluctant rebel leader against the oppressive Capitol government in Panem, continues with this action drama.

The Imitation Game • Benedict Cumberbatch ("Sherlock") portrays cypher analyst Alan Turing as his Bletchley Park team races against time to crack the Nazis' codes. Keira Knightley also stars.

The Theory of Everything • James Marsh ("Man on Wire") directs this biography of Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne), which centers on the physicist's early discoveries, his early battles with ALS, and his romance with a fellow student, Jane (Felicity Jones).

Nov. 21

Horrible Bosses 2 • Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day return for more revenge comedy, this time tossing aside their bad bosses to start their own business — but when an investor (Christoph Waltz) screws them over, their caper involves kidnapping the guy's son (Chris Pine).

Penguins of Madagascar • Those superspy waterfowl are back, this time challenged by an evil squid (voiced by John Malkovich) and competing with a rival espionage task force (led by a wolf voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch).

November to be determined

Foxcatcher • Director Bennett Miller ("Moneyball") examines the strange, and ultimately tragic, relationship between champion wrestler Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and his benefactor, John du Pont (Steve Carell).

The Homesman • Tommy Lee Jones directs and stars in this Western as a claim jumper who teams with a pioneer woman (Hilary Swank) to transport three insane women from Nebraska to Iowa.

St. Vincent • Bill Murray stars in this comedy, the debut of writer-director Theodore Melfi, playing a misanthrope who becomes babysitter and mentor to the son (Jaeden Lieberher) of the divorced woman (Melissa McCarthy) just moved in next door.

White Bird in a Blizzard • Director Gregg Araki's latest drama centers on a college student (Shailene Woodley) picking up the emotional pieces after her mother (Eva Green) disappears.
