Two years after Bourbon House closed in downtown Salt Lake City, the owners of Prohibition have set a date for opening a new bar in the space.
Repeal, in the basement of the Walker Center at 19 E. 200 South, is a new live jazz and cocktail bar that will open April 29, according to a news release. Co-owner Kelly Howard said in a statement that Repeal will be an “extension of Prohibition,” a 1920s-style speakeasy bar at 151 E. 6100 South in Murray.
The new bar will feature a “distinctive” dining experience, craft cocktails, a chef’s table for special events, and nightly entertainment, the release said.
Reservations can be booked online, starting April 21, at RepealUtah.com.
Bourbon House closed in 2023 as a “victim of COVID.”
Before Bourbon House, in the early 1970s, the bar was called D.B. Cooper’s, named for the infamous hijacker, and was in business for around three decades. Later, it existed as Monk’s House of Jazz.
