The gado-gado salad at MakanMakan in Sandy makes eating vegetables a joy

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Makanmakan, a new restaurant in Sandy offers Asian street food fare. Gado Gado, Indonesian salad of blanched vegetables, hard boiled egg, fried tofu, fried shallot, shrimp crackers and peanut sauce dressing.

Dish of the Week: Gado-Gado ($9.25)

This salad — the name means “potpourri” — was a surprise hit at MakanMakan in Sandy. In Jakarta, it’s made with whatever is in season.

For now, expect blanched and thinly sliced potatoes with scalloped edges, vinegary cucumbers, fried tofu, a jammy hard-boiled egg, along with cabbage, lettuce and a spattering of noodles.

The peanut sauce, made with coconut milk, will make eating your vegetables a pleasure.
