Billy Joel, Sting concert at Rice-Eccles postponed a year

Joel announced Tuesday he would be postponing eight shows due to surgery.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Jason Farrell, President of Live Nation Utah, announces the upcoming concert with Billy Joel and Sting at Rice-Eccles Stadium in May, during a news conference on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024. The concert has been postponed a year to May 22, 2026.

Utahns will have to wait another year to see the iconic ‘Piano Man’ in concert.

Singer-songwriter and pianist Billy Joel announced he will be postponing some of his upcoming tour dates, including one in Salt Lake City at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Joel, who is 75 years old, shared a statement on Instagram that he is rescheduling eight shows because of a “medical condition.” He recently had a surgery and needs to undergo physical therapy, the statement said.

“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first. I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding,” Joel wrote.

Joel was scheduled to perform at Rice-Eccles on May 23, 2025, alongside English musician Sting. Both artists will be at the rescheduled date, which will be a year later on May 22, 2026.

Joel has played in Utah several times over the course of his career, the last being in November 2017 at Vivint Smart Home Arena (now the Delta Center).

All purchased tickets will be valid for the rescheduled show. Joel’s tour will pick up again in Pittsburgh on July 5, 2025.
