This Utahn will be working the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards

‘Queer Eye’s’ Tan France will be part of the ceremony’s pre-show Sunday, streaming live on Netflix.

Tan France has walked the red carpet a lot since he became one of the stars of “Queer Eye” six years ago. On Sunday, he’ll be working the red carpet during the Screen Actors Guild Awards pre-show on Netflix.

He’ll be hosting the pre-show with Elaine Welteroth, which makes sense. France is the fashion guy on “Queer Eye”; Welteroth is one of the judges on “Project Runway.” They’ll be talking to the stars about what (or who) they’re wearing and commenting on their fashion choices.

According to Netflix, the pair will be “interviewing nominees, highlighting the best fashion looks of the night and giving viewers a look at the star-studded red carpet.”

Born in England to parents who immigrated from Pakistan, France has made Utah his home for more than 15 years.

The pre-show will stream live on Netflix on Sunday at 5 p.m. Mountain time. At 6 p.m. Mountain t, the SAG Awards ceremonies will stream live on Netflix for the first time. (Netflix picked the awards show up at pretty much the last minute a year ago and streamed it live on its YouTube channel because it was unprepared to stream a live event like this on its primary platform.)

In January, France and his “Queer Eye” co-stars — Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski and Jonathan Van Ness — walked the red carpet at the Emmy Awards and walked out with statuettes of their own as producers of the show, which won as outstanding structured reality program.

As has been the case since 2021, the SAG Awards will not have a host, but a series of presenters. Scheduled to run for two hours (but will Netflix care if it runs long?), the awards will be presented at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles. There are categories for both television and movie actors. and the winners are voted on by the more than 19,000 members of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

Among movie casts, “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” are tied for the most nominations, with four each. In the TV categories, “Succession” leads with five nominations; “The Bear,” “The Last of Us” and “Ted Lasso” each has four.

Barbara Streisand — who doesn’t have a SAG Award but does have six Emmys, nine Grammys, two Oscars and a Tony — will be presented with SAG’s lifetime achievement award.
