One of the ‘Real Housewives of SLC’ slept with her brother-in-law, and eight other takeaways

More fights are brewing in Episode 2, including Whitney ‘poking the bear’ before a trip to Palm Springs.

Here are nine things viewers learned on the Sept. 12 episode of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City:

1. The new Housewife, Monica Garcia, was excommunicated from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints “for [expletive] my brother-in-law for 18 months,” she says. She clarifies that she had an affair with the husband of her husband’s sister. And he was not excommunicated. “They never excommunicate the men,” Heather says, and Monica agrees.

(Perhaps it’s worth pointing out that Whitney Rose and her husband, Justin, had an affair with each other while they were married to other people. Justin was excommunicated; Whitney was not. She later resigned her church membership.)

2. Monica’s father walked out on his family when she was 4. “I don’t know if he’s dead. … All I know is that he was gay and he had a boyfriend and he moved to Florida and that’s the last time we saw him.”

3. Former BFFs-turned-mortal enemies Lisa Barlow and Meredith Marks try to renew their friendship, although neither is ready to trust the other. “I’m definitely going to be cautious moving forward,” Lisa says. And Meredith says she’s “a little bit ambivalent,” but she wants to make “an attempt at a fresh start.”

4. Former BFFs-turned-foes Heather Gay and Whitney Rose have a new point of contention — fellow Housewife Angie Katsanevas. Whitney thinks Angie is a “fun friend”; Heather calls her “catty and jealous and not anyone that I want to invest any time with.”

5. Heather thinks it’s “weird” that Lisa’s son, Jack, is going on a Latter-day Saint mission, because his parents are not orthodox church members — they own liquor companies and drink alcohol. She says Lisa may not be “prepared for … who [Jack] might be when he comes home. And I think she’s in for a rude awakening.”

6. Angie tells Whitney that her 12-year-old daughter sleeps between her and her husband, Shawn, in the couple’s bed. Whitney says, “I’m stopping myself from wondering when or where they have sex.” Clearly, she’s wondering about it. But she is, at least, stopping herself from asking about it.

7. After serious marital problems in Season 1, Meredith and her husband Seth, are now “happier than ever.” They’ve started a relationships podcast. One topic: What is that hanging out of Seth’s nose? “I think it was an onion,” he says. “The onions from the caviar got everywhere.”

8. Meredith invites Heather, Lisa, Monica, Whitney and Mary Cosby to a girls’ weekend at the Trixie Motel in Palm Springs, California. She does not invite Angie. However, unbeknownst to Meredith, Whitney invites Angie. Whitney is “fully aware” that she is “poking the bear.”

9. Mary not only doesn’t know how to pronounce “Dom Perignon” — she keeps calling it “Dom Perry-on” — she is shocked and put out when she learns that the Trixie Motel doesn’t stock it. “Who doesn’t have Dom Perry-on?” she exclaims, under the impression that all motels have the champagne, which tends to sell for $250 or more per bottle.
