‘Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’ gets a season 2 trailer — with a peek at Jen Shah’s legal troubles, and a new cast member

The new season will launch on Sept. 12 on Bravo.

(Chad Kirkland/Bravo) "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" returns Sept. 12 with (from left to right) Heather Gay, Jen Shah, Meredith Marks, Mary Cosby, Lisa Barlow, Whitney Rose and new cast member Jennie Nguyen.

Fans got their first taste of the second season of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” — promising all the drama and backbiting for which the franchise is famous, and offering a peek at a seventh cast member.

It’s also the first time that Bravo has officially confirmed that all six first-season cast members are returning.

On Friday, Bravo TV released the new trailer, which highlights everything from Jen Shah’s legal troubles to Mary Cosby’s religious affiliation. The new season premieres on Sept. 12.

The biggest drama in the 2½-minute trailer is reserved for the end, involving Shah being indicted on fraud charges in March, reportedly just as the new season started filming.

The trailer shows Shah at one point crying in fear over her fate, and at another yelling at castmate Meredith Marks.

The trailer ends with Shah’s attorney telling her, “The U.S. Attorney’s Office is no joke.” Shah is then shown asking, “Do we need to get Kim Kardashian on our legal team?”

In another part of the trailer, a discussion of Cosby’s church — and whether it’s a cult — comes up, prompted when Cosby tells castmate and tequila magnate Lisa Barlow, “I’m like God, I worship the God in me.”

(Chad Kirkland/Bravo) Jennie Nguyen joins the cast of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" in Season 2.

In addition to regulars Whitney Rose discussing her sex life and Heather Gay talking religion with her daughter, the trailer also introduces a seventh cast member: Jennie Nguyen.

“Jennie’s a little firecracker,” Shah says to the camera, before another scene of the women shouting.

That’s followed by a discussion between Nguyen and her husband, Duy, about the subject of having more children — an idea Jennie opposes. Duy’s follow-up question — “What if we get a sister wife?” — is followed with Jennie walking away from the conversation.

According to her bio on Bravo’s website, Nguyen was born in Vietnam and emigrated to the United States at age 7. She recently sold her medical-spa business to be a stay-at-home mother to her three children.

Bravo offered up a few tidbits about what fans can expect in Season 2:

• Lisa continues to be a busy working mom, but she “quickly finds herself in the center of the drama when the other Housewives question her motives.”

• Mary is forced to close the doors to her church because of the pandemic and starts a faith-based podcast. “Friendships are tested” when Lisa’s friend reveals some “unsettling allegations” about Mary.

• Heather’s business is thriving, but her oldest daughter is getting ready to move out and she continues to struggle with breaking away from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

• Meredith and her husband, Seth, are “going strong,” according to Bravo, “but there still appear to be a few cracks in their foundation.” And she and Lisa are on the outs.

• Whitney struggles to balance her new business with her “stay-at-home mom duties” and her “romantic life” with her husband. And Whitney comes between Lisa and “one of her best gal pals.” (Meredith? Jennie?)

• We already know what happens to Jen. “Her world comes crashing down” when she’s indicted on federal fraud charges. She “quickly realizes who her true friends are” and questions one of her fellow Housewives turned her in. (Meredith?)

• And Bravo describes new cast member Jennie as a woman who “is not afraid to ask the tough questions and has no problem jumping right into the drama.”
