While hiking, biking and climbing might satisfy the average thrill seeker in southern Utah, a new attraction at luxury resort Amangiri is taking explorers to dizzying new heights.
This month, Amangiri — a 600-acre, five-star luxury resort in Canyon Point, Utah — opened a 200-foot-long steel staircase as part of its via ferrata hiking systems.
The staircase, called the Cave Peak Stairway, can be climbed after ascending the Cave Peak Via Ferrata trail. The staircase’s 120 steps are 400 feet off the ground, or about the same height as a 40-story building.

The whole excursion takes around four hours, according to information provided by Amangiri.
“It’s kind of a physical challenge (and) mental challenge,” said Anne Welsh, an executive assistant at Amangiri.
Welsh said the resort offers professional guides, and by climbing the via ferrata trail leading up to the stairs, guests can get a feel for how comfortable they are with the height and climb.
The attraction is available only to guests staying in one of the resort’s suites, which go for at least $3,500 a night during peak season, Welsh said.
Amangiri’s most expensive accommodation is its four-bedroom villa, which goes for $12,000 a night.
Welsh said other popular activities at the resort include horseback riding and trips to nearby Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon.
While she also said Amangiri doesn’t share details about who’s stayed there, one doesn’t have to look far to learn it is a celebrity favorite.
For instance, Vogue reported last year that the resort has been a getaway for Justin and Hailey Beiber, Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian.
And according to Lonely Planet, other celebrity guests have included Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Gordan Ramsay.
