Utah movie lovers can get an insider’s look at the workings of the 2020 Sundance Film Festival from the guy in charge: Festival director John Cooper.

Cooper will be the guest of honor at The Salt Lake Tribune’s fifth annual Sundance Film Festival Preview, a live event set for Monday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Tower Theatre, 876 E. 900 South, Salt Lake City.

Cooper — who is retiring as festival director after this year’s event — will talk with Salt Lake Tribune arts and culture reporter Sean P. Means about this year’s festival offerings, how Cooper and his team choose the lineup, and some of the movie history Cooper has seen in his many years at Sundance.

Attendees will get to see clips and trailers from some of this year’s festival films, and quiz Cooper in a Q&A session.

Tickets are $15, available online at slfs.org, or in person starting Monday at noon at the Tower. Seating is limited, so get tickets early.
