Tabernacle Choir will tour Scandinavia and the United Kingdom in 2020

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square rehearses April 12, 2019. The choir and its orchestra will tour Scandinavia and the United Kingdom in the summer of 2020.

The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is headed to Scandinavia and the British Isles next year, where it will perform six times.

The 22-day trip will take The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square to Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Wales and Scotland. According to the choir, the last time it performed in the four Nordic countries was 1982; its last trip to Wales and Scotland was in 1955.

The performance schedule is:

• June 27, 2020 — Stockholm

• June 30, 2020 — Helsinki

• July 2, 2020 — Copenhagen

• July 7, 2020 — Oslo

• July 10 and 11, 2020 — Cardiff, Wales

• July 14, 2020 — Edinburgh, Scotland

The first of two concerts in Cardiff will be a benefit; attendance will be by invitation only. Ticket information for the other concerts will be announced later.

The choir is calling this the Heritage Tour, a reference to its early history when it featured many converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the countries they will be visiting.

“We stand on the shoulders of these musical pioneers who created a legacy that has influenced the entire world for good,” said choir President Ron Jarrett. “What an honor it will be to share the joy and peace the music of the choir brings in some of the very places where it all began.”

The choir has 360 members; the orchestra has about 65 musicians.
