‘Avengers 4’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ are the most anticipated movies of 2019

Four of the top-five grossing movies of 2018 (and six of the top 10) were superhero stories, and the forecast for 2019 is more of the same.

IMDb (Internet Movie Database) and the online movie ticketing platform Atom Tickets report that, according to their users, “Avengers 4: Endgame” and “Captain Marvel” are the two most anticipated movies this year (although they have them in reverse order).

Five of the films in each forecast list center on superheroes, and a sixth on the IMDb’s ranking — “Joker” — is about a supervillain.

In addition to “Avengers” and “Captain Marvel”, there are a new X-Men movie, a new Spider-Man movie, a new Hellboy movie and “Glass” (a sequel to “Unbreakable” and “Split”).

The lists are filled with other familiar titles, like live-action remakes of Disney’s “Aladdin” and “The Lion King”; sequels to “It,” “Jumanji” and “Toy Story”; and the new “Star Wars” movie.

Based on a survey of their users, here are the films IMDb and Atom Tickets say fans are most eager to see:
