At 79, Robert Redford is not slowing down his output as an actor.
The Utah-based actor, director and Sundance Institute founder has signed on for his next movie role, in the science-fiction romance "The Discovery," Entertainment Weekly reports.
The movie is set in a near future, two years after a scientist, played by Redford, has proven the existence of the afterlife. The romance is between the scientist's son (played by Jason Segel) and a woman (played by Rooney Mara) with a tragic backstory.
The movie is directed by Charlie McDowell, whose debut was the 2014 sci-fi-tinged romance "The One I Love," starring Mark Duplass and Elisabeth Moss. McDowell and Justin Lader wrote the screenplay. (McDowell is also the son of actors Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen.)
Filming is set to start later this month in Rhode Island (where, by the way, Redford shot the 1974 adaptation of "The Great Gatsby").
Audiences will next see Redford onscreen in August, co-starring in Disney's remake of "Pete's Dragon."
