75-year-old woman struck by car in Layton wasn’t using a crosswalk

A 75-year-old woman who died after she was hit by a car last week in Layton attempted to cross the street outside of a crosswalk, police said.

Chiyoko Copeland was pronounced dead at a hospital after she was struck by a car about 5:20 p.m. on Friday, near the 700 block of Main Street, Lt. Travis Lyman said.

She was hit as she attempted to run across eastbound Main Street from the median, Lyman said.

Police are investigating the collision, and it’s unclear whether the 33-year-old driver will be charged, Lyman said.
