Woman, 75, fatally hit by car while crossing Layton street

A 75-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car in Layton Friday night.

The woman was trying to cross North Main Street on the 700 block when she was struck by a car driven by a 33-year-old man about 5:18 p.m., Layton Police Sgt. Juan Moreno said.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died, Moreno said, adding that the department is not releasing her name.

Moreno said he did not know the circumstances of the accident, including whether the woman had used a crosswalk, the speed limit of the four-lane street or the estimated speed of the vehicle.

The driver was not cited for the accident, Moreno said, but investigation is ongoing to determine whether charges will be filed. The Layton officer declined to say whether any eyewitnesses had been interviewed.
