Davis High students march in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

(Photo by www.GroupPhotos.com) The Davis High School Marching Band performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City on Nov. 23, 2017.

Sandwiched somewhere between the Hallmark Channel’s Holiday Countdown and the Macy’s singing Christmas tree, a group of high school students from Utah paraded down Manhattan’s 6th Avenue on Thursday.

For a year and a half, the Davis High School Marching Band practiced and raised money to send the group to New York for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Macy’s announced the invitation in April 2016, and Davis High was one of 10 schools out of about 200 candidates invited to march in the parade.

More than 300 students marched in the parade, according to the Davis School District.

The 2017 parade was Davis High School’s first time participating in the annual New York event, but in 2013, the school marched in the Rose Parade, held before the Rose Bowl college football game in Pasadena, Calif., on New Year’s Day.
