A 27-year-old woman is in jail for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident after hitting a pedestrian in a crosswalk, killing him. The woman is believed to have been intoxicated.

Roxanna Molina has been booked into the Salt Lake County jail for felony charges of automobile homicide and failure to remain at the scene, as well as misdemeanor DUI.

About 9 p.m. Wednesday, Unified police responded to the crosswalk at 4200 South Redwood Road in Taylorsville, where they found a man about 100 yards from the crosswalk. He was dead when the officers arrived, Lt. Brian Lohrke said.

The victim has been identified as a 19-year-old Taylorsville man, but police are withholding his name pending family notification. Police do not know exactly how the man got 100 yards from the scene of the accident.

Lohrke said there were reports of a silver Cadillac Escalade running a red light, hitting the pedestrian crossing the street and then fleeing. The Escalade was found shortly after at a Walgreen store down the street.

Molina was found in the Escalade, which was badly damaged and broken down, according to a probable cause statement. When she saw officers, Molina left her car and attempted to run to another car, but police were able to arrest her.

Molina was taken to the Taylorsville precinct, where she eventually said she had taken several shots and drank several beers prior to driving, according to the probable cause statement. She consented to a blood draw.

Molina said she was on her way to a party and was speeding when the accident occurred. She told police she knew she hit someone but decided to keep driving, according to the probable cause statement.
