Letter: No gun control, just more killings

Today we read again about another tragedy where a teacher has been killed by a student with a gun ("Police: Nevada middle school shooter was 12 years old," Tribune, Oct. 22).

These events are described as "unthinkable" and yet they aren't — they happen all the time: teachers, a class of 5-year olds, moviegoers. Our families are increasingly the targets of senseless rage.

In the face of these reoccurring tragedies, there is momentary shock and outrage, and then absolutely nothing happens to change our course for the future.

There is no moral or political will to tighten gun laws and change our views of societal violence. Quite the contrary; the more these events occur the more society advocates for more guns.

From now on reporting of these events should appear in the Lifestyle section.
