That spring-like break Utahns relished earlier this week comes to an end on Thursday when the western two-thirds of the state braces for a building series of wintry storms.
The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the region that stretches into the weekend. A moist, unsettled weather pattern will arrive in the Beehive State early Thursday, bringing a dip in temperatures, valley rainstorms and mountain snow showers.
Before that change, the Wasatch Front was due to enjoy highs in the 60s again on Wednesday. Thursday's forecast is for rain and highs in the 50s.
In southern Utah, where highs slid into the low-70s earlier this week, daytime temperatures on Thursday were to slip back into the 60s with 10-20 mph winds kicking up in the evening.
The Utah Division of Air Quality hoisted its "green" or healthy breathing pennants statewide.
The Utah Avalanche Center rated the Uintas at "high" risk for potentially deadly backcountry snowslides, while "moderate" grades were given to the mountains above Logan, Ogden, Salt Lake City, Provo and Moab.
