The inaugural Junior Freeride World Championships will take place April 3-7 at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort — and event organizers are encouraging local big-mountain skiers and snowboarders to participate.
Registration is under way at www.juniorfreeridetour.com. Locals age 15 to 17 who pay the $75 signup fee will compete against prequalified athletes who took part in earlier Junior Freeride Tour stops at Crystal Mountain, Wash., and Squaw Valley, Calif.

"Snowbird has been a marquee destination for freeriders from all over the world for years," said Freeride Tour Director Jeff Berman. "The resort’s heritage in this sport has been pivotal in the development of modern big-mountain competition. Athletes from all over the world will be [here], making this a true Junior World Championship."
The event is sponsored by The North Face, a manufacturer of outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear.
