Letter: Kamala Harris has a chance to showcase policies that will win the election versus sticking strictly to her political past

(Erin Schaff | The New York Times) Vice President Kamala Harris speaks at an event for NCAA champions on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, on Monday, July 22, 2024.

When will Kamala Harris publish and post the formal policies and platform she plans to base her presidential bid upon?

My hope is Vice President Harris will realize the tremendous opportunity in front of her and create policies that will win the election versus sticking strictly to her political past. To accomplish that objective, it would make sense to me that components of her platform need to move toward the center rather than what her voting record indicates.

I understand she needs to weigh what she might gain from attracting centrist voters while not losing the Warren/Sanders-type support on the harder left. There should be lively debate as to which specific economic, border, foreign policy, energy/environmental and other positions are going to improve her odds of victory.

It’s only been a few weeks since President Joe Biden’s announcement that he won’t run for reelection. I look forward to learning more specifics as her campaign progresses.
