Letter: Trump is everything every ‘Christian‘ claims to disavow

FILE- In this Oct. 30, 2016, file photo, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stands during a service at the International Church of Las Vegas in Las Vegas. President Trump’s pledge to scrap limits on church political activity could have sweeping effects that extend beyond his conservative supporters to more liberal congregations, including the black evangelical church that has long helped anchor the Democratic Party’s electoral machinery. Donald Trump is a Nazi sympathizer, sexual predator, serial liar, racist and bigot and is actively, openly, trying to break down the barriers between our three branches of government and to subvert the justice process. And it is increasingly clear he conspired with Russia to win the election. All the while, our elected GOP representatives stand by and ignore their oaths to defend the Constitution.

Trump is everything every “Christian” claims to disavow, but they don’t. It is impossible to support Trump and distance oneself from the policies and behavior he represents. An equivalency would be, “I support segregation, but I am not a racist.” Or, “Vote for Charlie Manson, he only killed nine people.” All that is needed to support Trump is that one be completely amoral and indifferent to others.

In 2018, and again in 2020, Americans will decide if we are going to be a country of laws “of and for the people” or if we are going to be living in the Trump/GOP society where the wealthy and the white-collar criminals rule.

Regardless of the outcome, I am old enough to state that I will have lived through and enjoyed America’s last years of being a democratic republic before the fascists came to town. The GOP is now morphing into the selfish, greedy American Fascist Party, willingly aided and abetted by every GOP member of Congress, including Utah’s “representatives.”

Hopefully, you “Christians” will be happy with your upcoming choices.
