Letter: Don’t a shake a woman’s hand unless she offers it
President Donald Trump adjusts his suit jacket after signing the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 bill, in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, in Washington. Plowing into the sexual harassment debate in a big way, Trump laced into Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, tweeting that the New York Democrat would come to his office "begging" for campaign contributions and "do anything" to get them. In these times with all the news of men forcing themselves upon women, there is a simple rule of courtesy and etiquette that seems to have been lost.
My mother taught me that a man should never reach for or shake a woman’s hand unless she offers it. This is especially lost on Mormon men who have a propensity of constantly pumping hands. Men should not thrust their hand out, making a woman feel uncomfortable and obligated to take it. It is rude and discourteous.
Women do not like unwanted touching, nor do they want their space invaded. There are men whose slimy hands even I do not want to shake. You never know where that hand has been.
Donald Trump comes to mind.
