Letter: Stop labeling and consider alternative explanations

Salt Lake Tribune - Historical File WWII Surrender Page Two persons are standing near The Salt Lake Tribune newspapers stall.

It seems that the Public Forum and life in general are currently filled with “I’m right, you’re wrong.”

This behavior cements an us/them, argumentative environment.

When we realize if we were raised like the other person with a different view and had their same life experiences, we would be doing/saying the very thing that is causing us so much consternation.

Stop labeling people liberal or conservative.

Labels set up expectations and conjure solid images without providing the opportunity for much flexibility. Instead, accept the people/person as they are now.

Listen. Hear. Consider the alternative explanation. It takes self-control and compassion to live peacefully, remembering we are all connected as human beings.
