Letter: Study the candidates and take back Utah

Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune Elliot McDaniel (right) and his father Darin waited in line for two hours before they cast their ballot. Lines and wait times were long at the Democratic caucus at Mountain View Elementary School as both registered party members and unaffiliated voters cast their ballots, Tuesday, March 22, 2016.

The sad saga of Salt Lake County recorder indicates the farce of straight-line party voting. Those who vote the straight party ticket show they don’t study the candidates, but just rely on whether an R or D appears in front of their name. When are the voters in Utah going to decide to study the candidates and vote for the best one. Wake up, Utah voters, and take back your state.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
