Letter: Following DACA ruling logic, children are guilty by association?

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Mayra Cedano gives a hug to activist Archie Archuleta. Hundreds of "We are Dreamers," a Utah pro-Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) group, marched in solidarity from the Utah Federal Building to the State Capitol with undocumented immigrants who will be affected by the end of DACA.

Applying the logic the Republicans used to repeal DACA: Any child in the presence of a parent committing a crime is equally guilty of that crime and subject to the same punishment. No exceptions.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
