How about instead of the Utah Transit Authority imposing a fare surcharge because of higher fuel prices, implement a gas and diesel tax on motorists at the pump and funnel the money to more mass transit. (Businesses that require the use of fuel could be refunded when they file their taxes.) This way, instead of mass transit becoming more expensive and possibly discouraging its use, it becomes more financially attractive compared to driving a vehicle. With the extra funding, UTA can more quickly expand services.
