After my husband read Brigham Young University professor Jeffrey Nielsen's op-ed piece (Tribune
, June 4), he warned me that BYU would soon give Nielsen the ax for daring to dissent from LDS Church doctrine.
Having moved here just last year from Austin, I naively thought this would be preposterous. After all, my last job was working for the University of Texas, where thoughtful debate is considered a hallmark of quality education.
It seems my husband was right. BYU isn't about education. It's about indoctrination.
