It's about indoctrination

After my husband read Brigham Young University professor Jeffrey Nielsen's op-ed piece (Tribune, June 4), he warned me that BYU would soon give Nielsen the ax for daring to dissent from LDS Church doctrine.

Having moved here just last year from Austin, I naively thought this would be preposterous. After all, my last job was working for the University of Texas, where thoughtful debate is considered a hallmark of quality education.

It seems my husband was right. BYU isn't about education. It's about indoctrination.
