The cost of a barrel of oil has dropped by nearly 25 percent in the last few weeks, yet the cost of a gallon of gasoline has dropped just a few cents. The gas stations and oil companies jack up the price as soon as an upward trend occurs in the cost of a barrel of oil, but they don't lower it as fast.
We have heard the excuses over and over again. But they just don't fly when we see that the prices at the pumps in neighboring states are down by nearly as much as 50 cents a gallon.
It is time we regulated the pumps just like we do the natural gas, power and phone utilities. Let the Public Service Commission deal with these guys.
