Posted: 3:17 PM- Mayor Ralph Becker is proposing "Mutual Commitment Registry" as the new name for Salt Lake City's domestic-partnership registry, which survived multiple challenges during the 2008 Utah Legislature.
On the session's final day, state lawmakers passed a bill that allows cities and counties to adopt the voluntary index so long as the "domestic partnership" phrase is changed. Some legislators worried the term could be interpreted as akin to gay marriage.
City Council members may consider the name change as early as April 1.
