Posted: 7:41 AM- LOGAN - One of the Cache Valley's best-known matriarchs, Merle Olsen, has died. She was 94.
The Herald Journal reports today that Mrs. Olsen, the mother of former professional football player and actor Merlin Olsen, passed away on Monday at Logan Regional Hospital.
She is remembered by many as a teacher, friend and caregiver. The Herald Journal says that up until just six months ago she continued to live in her house just across from Merlin Olsen Park.
Mrs. Olsen had nine children, 42 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Merle was born in Fairview, Wyo. She married Lynn Jay Olsen in the Logan LDS temple in 1938. Lynn passed away in 1981. Before his death, they served two church missions.
Funeral services will be held Friday at noon at the Logan 11th Ward chapel.
