A 60-acre wildfire that destroyed three buildings at the Great Salt Lake Marina on Tuesday has been ruled an accident, fire officials said.
Investigators determined the blaze, first reported at about 12:40 p.m., was started by welders working in the area, said Unified Fire Authority Capt. Clint Smith.
The fire burned south of Interstate 80, between State Road 201 and State Road 202 near the Salt Lake County-Tooele County line for about two hours before high wind gusts pushed it across the interstate to the marina. Officials said the fire was contained by 5 p.m.
