St. George - Washington County teachers would see reduced hours and pay under the school district's budget proposal .

The Washington County School District is facing a $5.8 million budget deficit. Superintendent Max Rose says the cuts shouldn't affect students, but all district employees are expected to take two days off without pay.

Rose says the furloughs would save the district about $1 million.

Rose says his budget proposal doesn't include layoffs, but that could change if the number of retiring teachers is fewer than anticipated.

The district also hopes to save money by reducing staff developers in secondary schools, cutting budgets for instructional supplies and field trips.
