Jesse Garcia, a long-time Ogden City Council member, did indeed lose his seat in this month's election.

The official tally of votes, accepted at Tuesday's Ogden City Council meeting, confirmed that Neil K. Garner bested Garcia by 17 votes for the Ward 1 district in central Ogden.

Garner had 392 votes to Garcia's 375 votes. The official canvass included absentee and provisional ballots not available election night, when Garner had an 18-vote victory margin.

Garcia served four terms on the council, including several years as chairman, and made an unsuccessful run against Mayor Matthew Godfrey in 2003.

The official canvass also confirmed that incumbent Doug Stephens won his bid for a second term representing Ward 3. Susie Van Hooser, a former councilwoman who failed to unseat Godfrey in 2007, was elected to at-large seat A.
