A nominating commission has chosen five people as nominees for a vacancy on the 3rd District Court bench.

The person chosen will replace Judge Sheila McCleve, who retired on July 1.

A 10-day public comment period will be held before the names are submitted to Gov. Gary Herbert. The deadline for written comments is Oct. 26.

After the names go to Herbert, he has 30 days to choose a candidate. The governor's choice is subject to approval by the Utah Senate.

The 3rd Judicial District is comprised of Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties.
