Salt Lake County deputies arrested a 49-year-old man accused of threatening a woman with a sword.

Documents filed with the county jail say the woman told the man to be out of her home before she returned home Thursday. When the woman returned with her daughter, the man was still there and appeared to be drunk, she told deputies. An argument ensued and the man started throwing punches, the woman told police.

The woman picked up a baseball bat and told him to leave her daughter alone. That's when she says he grabbed a samurai sword and unsheathed it and pointed it at either the woman or her daughter. The woman dialed police, and he put the sword down and ran out of the house.

Deputies found the man hiding in the backyard smelling of alcohol, the jail documents say. They booked him into jail on suspicion of assault, domestic violence and outstanding warrants.
