Investigators believe a child playing with matches started a fire that heavily damaged a Roy home Thursday morning.
An adult, believed to be the mother, and two young children were at of the house on the 3100 West block of 5825 South when the smoke alarm sounded about 9 a.m., said Roy fire Capt. Bret Felter. All three escaped safely.
Firefighters arrived to find flames coming out of the front and the back of the house. They put out the blaze in about 15 minutes, but not before it caused about $100,000 in damage.
The blaze started when the children were downstairs playing and one lit a piece of paper on fire, Felter said. They are toddler age, with the oldest about 5 years old, Felter said.
