Three Bountiful children critically injured in separate accidents Tuesday are all recovering, police say.
A 2½-year-old boy shocked by electrical current from a power line was still in critical condition Wednesday morning but expected to survive, said Bountiful police Lt. Randy Pickett. Jake Marland was playing on a swing set when the power line fell on it at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Marland was badly burned when the current entered at his shoulder, arced up and down his sides, and exited at his feet. He will need skin grafts, and likely stay at Primary Children's Medical Center for about a month, Pickett said.
A second child who was backed over by a pickup truck in his driveway about 45 minutes later was also in critical condition Wednesday morning and also expected to survive. The 1-year-old suffered severe head injuries after he crawled behind a rear tire of the pickup before a relative backed out of the driveway near 850 East and 1200 North without seeing him, Pickett said.
A third child who nearly drowned at a pool party Tuesday night was upgraded from critical to serious condition Wednesday. At about 9:15 p.m., the 3-year-old girl was found at the bottom of a household pool near 1000 East and 250 South. She was thought to have been under water for about a minute, but was coughing and breathing as she was flown to the hospital Tuesday.
